sandy. meantime stocks have closed with a worse one day stock of the year. the bigger problem is that the fiscal cliff that is being debated. the dow jones average plunged by about 300 points. and it ended at 12,932. the s&p 500 dropped by 32. the unemployment benefits are one of the big days that will drive trading today. we will see what will happen with the opening bell rings. >> everyone had to get out of this embassy suites hotel. >> the reason why they had to get out of their rooms was because of carbon monoxide. this happened about 1:00 a.m. this morning. if the fire department just left about 20 minutes ago. they are finally okay to return to their room. the one common denominator is that they're probably very tired after a long night. >> here is video that we received when we arrived at 1:00 the morning. this is all the guests who are in the lobby. the fire department went room to room to make sure that there was no victims. they learned that it came from a boiler. and this boiler either warms the whawater at the hotel. here is what residents said. >> and recorded a v

is this thursday november 1st the northeast is still reeling after super storm sandy this morning. we'll have more on the damage and efforts to clean that up and just a minute. bay area is waking up to rain and we're tracking if there's a forecast and we will visit with their cut in just a bit. >> we are tracking a hot spot at interstate 580 where the drive time continues to decline. and the 5:00 hour there were 45 minutes twice the usual commute time. we are now pushing over 60 minutes over one hour to they also must pass to the dublin interchange. there is still trying to clear the house in the off ramp. rain and a number of incidents and the westbound direction , with a multicar crash that did not clear very quickly. it has left us with this horrendous westbound back up. they flee that is the only hot spot this morning. >> here is a wider view of the storm system we are tracking. it is making his way to the south. impact a lot of church leaders last night but we are no longer seen plo. it is still raining in the south bay and east bay as well. we've seen some improvement for san carlos in redwo

aside for families affected by superstorm sandy. so the parade organizers doing what they can to at least give those folks a little bit of happiness here after all the struggle in the past few weeks or so. let's bring it back to the bay area. we have a part of ocean beach closed. crews are cleaning up a sewage discharge that came from a manhole cover yesterday at balboa. the department of public works says the beach has a no swimming advisory as they conduct quality tests on the water. about 90% of the discharge is rainwater. no reports of foul odor. before they reopen the area and we want to make sure they do that. >>> we are learning of a third death dying from eating toxic mushrooms at a senior care facility. the golden age facility. they reported that. the name's of the victims not released after they ate a soup with toxic mushrooms november ea . the person who made the soup picked the mushrooms from their backyard. they didn't know it was poisonous. >>> let's take a break. we have clear skies and sunshine. hopefully, it will warm us up before too much longer. it's cold o

:51. some new jobless claims are down as the impact of superstorm sandy fades away. here now to chat about that and more, jason brooks with kcbs and cbsmoneywatch.com. good morning. >> reporter: some decent news on the economy out there. the labor department reporting that first time weekly claims fell 23,000 to 393,000 and for the first time in several weeks, superstorm sandy not distorting figures. now the overall trend is still distorted. the four-week average rose to 450,000. and another look at the economy, come from the commerce department its second look at 3rd quarter gross domestic product overall economic growth revising it higher to 2.7% from an earlier estimate of 2% also compared to 1.3% in the 2nd quarter. now, the 4th quarter is likely to be impacted by sandy and also from "fiscal cliff" worries. as far as the "fiscal cliff" goes, politico is reporting this morning that there is a framework for a deal in place that would include $1.2 trillion in tax increases and $400 billion in entitlement cuts on medicare. wall street watching that closely. let's look at the numbers. the d
